Boombox Cartel at Academy LA in Hollywood

Boombox Cartel is headlining Academy LA on Friday, October 16, and it's the kind of booking that makes a Friday in Hollywood easy to plan. Academy presents the night itself, the flyer keeps things simple (name, date, 21+, 10 PM), and that's all you really need to know. If you're sorting through LA EDM events for mid-October, this one sits right at the start of the weekend.

Who's playing

Boombox Cartel has spent years on the bass side of dance music, with heavy trap drops and a Latin streak running through a lot of the catalog. It's music built for a packed room with a big sound system, which is exactly what Academy is set up for. The event page lists Boombox Cartel as the only name on the bill so far. No support acts have been announced, so check the ticket page closer to the date if you want to know who's warming up the room.

Doors, age and tickets

Doors open at 10 PM PDT. The show is 21 and over, and Academy says all sales are final.

We couldn't confirm a ticket price. The TicketWeb page wouldn't load for us, and Academy's own listing doesn't print one, so check TicketWeb directly before you head out. Academy is firm on where tickets come from: only TicketWeb (and in some cases Tixr) tickets get you in. Anything from StubHub, Vivid Seats, Eventbrite or other resellers won't be honored at the door. Your government-issued ID has to match the name on the ticket, so buying a friend's spare isn't a plan.

The club is cashless. Bring a card or use Apple, Google or Samsung Pay at the bar. VIP tables are booked separately through Academy's site if you're rolling in with a group.

Getting there

Academy LA is at 6021 Hollywood Blvd, a few minutes on foot from the Hollywood/Vine Metro B Line station. The train is the smart move on a Friday night, when lots along the boulevard switch to event pricing and traffic around Vine crawls. Check Metro's late-night schedule before you count on a train home. Rideshare pickup tends to go smoother a block off the boulevard than right out front.

Academy stays busy this fall. Space Yacht's Big Bass Ting lands on October 9 and Rebuke plays October 3, so bass fans can stack a few weekends in a row.
