Brunello Mellow Circus at Ace Mission Studios

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and one of the more interesting LA EDM events that night skips the costume-contest routine entirely. Mellow Circus sets up at Ace Mission Studios, Mission 4 on Saturday, October 31, with Brunello, Bambounou and Jax Carter on the bill. Doors are at 9pm and the music runs until 2am. It's 21 and over.

Factory 93, the Insomniac imprint behind a lot of the city's warehouse house and techno nights, is presenting. Insomniac files the night under house, and the flyer backs that up: a hand-painted yellow sheet with a cartoon face peeking in from the edge, three names, and no fuss.

The Lineup

Three DJs across a five-hour window is a comfortable pace. Nobody's crammed into a 45-minute slot, so each set has room to build. Bambounou, a producer out of Paris, takes the middle of the bill. Brunello tops the billing, and the party carries his name. Jax Carter fills out the night.

If you only know one of the three, that's fine. Nights like this are built for people who come for the room and the sound system as much as the names.

The Venue

Ace Mission Studios sits on South Mission Road, just across the LA River from the Arts District. It's a cluster of production stages and warehouse spaces, and Mission 4 is one of the rooms inside the complex. Insomniac has been using the site more and more for house and techno, including the upcoming Time Warp debut. Concrete floors, high ceilings, no pretense.

Halloween night traffic around downtown gets ugly, so rideshare or a friend with a car beats circling for parking on Mission Road. Heads up: daylight saving time ends that same night, so your phone clock will jump back an hour around closing. Plan your ride home with that in mind.
