Channel Tres grew up between Compton and Lynwood, and on Friday, October 23, he headlines the Shrine Expo Hall, a short drive north of where he started. Goldenvoice is presenting the show. It starts at 9pm and it's 18+ with a valid government ID. Of all the LA EDM events on the fall calendar, this one is the hardest to file neatly. Tres makes house music, but he raps over it in a low, unhurried baritone, and the result sounds more like a late drive down Crenshaw than a warehouse at 4am.
Who he is
Channel Tres is Sheldon Young. He played drums for his church choir as a kid, studied music at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, then came home and made beats for Duckwrth, Wale and Kehlani before going solo. His 2018 self-titled EP carried "Controller" and "Topdown," still the two songs most people know him for. "Controller" got BBC Radio 1 airplay and a Pete Tong Essential New Tune nod. Australia's Triple J called it one of 2018's biggest cult hits.
He calls the sound Compton house. The drums come from Chicago and Detroit. The delivery comes from West Coast rap. His 2020 EP, i can't go outside, added "fuego" with Tyler, The Creator, and he's since worked with KAYTRANADA, SG Lewis and Jungle. Their "I've Been In Love" has passed 135 million Spotify streams.
The new record
His debut album, Head Rush, came out in 2024. The follow-up is Enigma. He started it in early 2025 after leaving his label, when he grabbed his MPC and rented an Airbnb in Topanga Canyon to write. Pharrell, Robyn, Polo & Pan and Kungs all worked with him on it. Listings bill this date as part of The Enigma Tour, so the new material should get plenty of room.
Fifi opens. The show listing on DoLA gives Ferizaj, Kosovo as home base.
Tickets and entry
Tickets are on Ticketmaster. Its listing didn't show a face-value price when we checked on September 28, so look at the event page for current tiers and fees before you commit. The age limit is 18+, with a valid government ID at the door. Set times and a curfew weren't posted yet.
If you're putting together a list of things to do in Los Angeles that weekend, this is the Friday pick for anyone who likes house with a rapper's cadence.
Getting to the Shrine
The Shrine Expo Hall sits at 665 W. Jefferson Blvd, next door to the Shrine Auditorium and across Jefferson from the USC campus. The Metro E Line's Jefferson/USC station is about a 10-minute walk east. That's easier than circling the blocks around campus for parking on a Friday night, and a rideshare drop on Jefferson works too.
The same night, the drum and bass collective Worship plays the Kia Forum in Inglewood, so plan your route around whichever one you pick. For more EDM Los Angeles shows this fall, see the EDM listings or browse everything we've found across Los Angeles.
