The Tropicana Pool at the Hollywood Roosevelt has hosted some of the most memorable nights in Los Angeles history, and on September 18 it sets the scene for another edition of Deep Dive. This recurring series treats the pool deck as a proper listening room, slowing things down just enough to let the music breathe alongside the water and the night sky.
Curated in partnership with In Sheep's Clothing, the LA shop and tastemaker collective known for championing adventurous and underrepresented sounds, Deep Dive has carved out a distinct identity in a city full of nightlife options. It's not a rave, not exactly a club night. It's closer to sitting in a room with people who care about records.
This edition features a guest DJ set from Gavin O'Connor, who performs as DJ GOC. The featured album for the night is Rodrigo y Gabriela's Ourhome, the duo's intricate acoustic guitar work filling the pool area in a format you won't catch at most EDM events. Getting to hear a full album played out loud in this setting is reason enough to show up early.
The Hollywood Roosevelt sits at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard, walking distance from the Hollywood and Highland Metro station on the B Line. Street parking on nearby side streets is hit or miss on a Friday, so the Metro or a rideshare is the smarter call. The Tropicana Pool area is outdoors, so dress for a September night in Hollywood: warm enough in the early evening, cooler by midnight.
Doors are at 8 PM, with the event running through midnight. Tickets are available through DICE. The Roosevelt's pool events tend to draw a mixed crowd, less scenester than the venue's peak-era reputation, more music-first.
If you're new to the EDM and electronic music events scene in LA, or if you think of it primarily as bass drops and festival grounds, Deep Dive is worth a look as a counterpoint. Some of the best nights out start with someone putting a record on and letting it play.
