DEEP-LA 360 Experience: Osunlade at Lodge Room

DEEP-LA is back on the dance floor. After a five month hiatus, the long-running deep house night returns on the eve of Thanksgiving with a special guest, Osunlade of Yoruba Records, playing a 360 degree set at Lodge Room in Highland Park. If you keep a list of EDM in Los Angeles worth planning around this fall, this is a strong candidate.

What a 360 experience means

The format puts the artist in the middle of the room with the crowd gathered around. Instead of facing a booth on a stage, everyone shares the same space as the music, which suits Osunlade's soulful, spiritual take on house. The flyer bills his set at three hours, so expect room for long builds and slow turns rather than a quick peak-hour run.

The lineup

Osunlade headlines as the guest. DEEP-LA founder Marques Wyatt and resident Big Cee round out the bill, the same pair that have anchored the night's sound. The promoters describe the return as a way of "coming back to our rhythm and roots," and the focus is on community as much as the records.

Sold out, or close to it

The venue page shows the show as sold out, with a "last call" tag, and the promoters said up front that they expected it to sell out. Check the ticket page before you plan around it, since returns and releases do happen. A midweek, night-before-a-holiday date also makes it an easy plan for people with family travel the next day.

Getting there

Lodge Room sits upstairs in the historic Masonic lodge building on Avenue 56 in Highland Park, near the corner of Figueroa Street. The venue has no parking of its own, but there is plenty of street parking nearby, so give yourself a few extra minutes to find a spot. A rideshare drop-off is the simplest choice if you plan to dance. Bring a photo ID, as the venue asks for one as proof of age.
