Organizer
Endless Summer

Derrick Carter doesn't play short sets. That's the first thing worth knowing about Endless Summer 2, which runs from 11 p.m. Saturday, September 19 until 6 a.m. Sunday morning at a Los Angeles location that organizers will send to ticket holders closer to the date.

The Headliner

Carter is one of the handful of DJs who can credibly be called a Chicago house institution. He came up through the city's post-Warehouse generation, co-founded Classic Music Company with Luke Solomon, and spent three decades building a style that's looser and funnier than most of what gets filed under house. His records swing. He'll drop a disco edit next to something with a bassline that sounds like it was recorded in a garage, and the transition works because he's been doing this since the late eighties.

JT Donaldson shares the top billing, and the pairing makes sense. Donaldson's catalog runs through deep house and jackin' house with the same emphasis on groove over grandeur. Expect long blends rather than drops. Sam, Luke, Nee.ko and Julian fill out the rest of the night, which is a lot of hours to cover and explains the 6 a.m. end time.

About That Location

The venue is listed as TBA. Endless Summer sends the address to ticket holders, usually a day or two out, which is standard practice for warehouse-style parties in LA where the space isn't a permanent club. Buy the ticket first, plan the ride second. Tickets run $20 to $50 depending on tier, so the earlier ones go fast.

Practical Notes

Seven hours is a genuine commitment. Eat beforehand, bring a layer for whenever you step outside around 4 a.m., and sort your ride home in advance because rideshare surge at dawn in an industrial pocket of the city is its own kind of pain. If you're the type who scans for LA EDM events every week hoping something with real pedigree turns up, this is that listing.
