Forever My Lady Listening Session at Dolores LBC

Jodeci's debut album Forever My Lady turns 35, and Dolores in Long Beach is marking it the best way a record deserves: by playing the whole thing, front to back, on a proper Hi-Fi sound system. It is a Sunday evening, it is free, and it is one of the easier LA events this weekend to fit around everything else on your calendar.

What to expect

A listening session is exactly what it sounds like. The album plays in order, the room gets quiet enough to hear the harmonies and the production, and people sit with the record instead of talking over it. The flyer lists the full tracklist, from "Stay" and "Come & Talk to Me" to "Forever My Lady," "My Phone," "Gotta Love" and "Treat U." If you grew up on this record, it is a chance to hear it loud and clean. If you did not, it is a good way to learn why new jack swing and R&B still get sampled and borrowed from today.

After the album, Chloëdees takes over with a vinyl DJ set. Nothing else about the set has been announced, so expect records, not a laptop, and a night that eases from listening into a looser dance-floor mood.

Getting there
