Jigitz and Killen. at the Fonda Theatre

UK garage has been creeping back into American club rooms for a few years now, mostly in basements and mostly on borrowed sound systems. Jigitz and Killen. get the Fonda Theatre, which is a different proposition entirely. Doors and music start at 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 19.

The Sound

Jigitz works in the space where garage, bassline and house overlap. Skippy two-step drums, vocal chops pitched up past recognition, basslines that wobble without tipping into dubstep territory. It's music built for rooms where people actually dance rather than stand and film. Killen. runs a similar lane with a heavier low end, leaning further into bassline's Sheffield lineage.

Neither of them plays the long moody warm-up. If you show up at 11 expecting to catch the build, you'll have missed a chunk of it.

The Fonda

The Fonda Theatre at 6126 Hollywood Blvd opened in 1926 as the Music Box and still has the balcony, the painted ceiling and the tiled lobby to prove it. Capacity sits right around 1,200, which puts you close enough to the stage that the room feels like a club instead of a hall. The upstairs bar and the rooftop patio are the two places to go when you need a break from the floor and some air.

Tickets are $136 through AXS. That's on the steeper end for a garage show, so decide early.

Getting There

Hollywood and Vine is a four-minute walk, and the B Line runs late enough on Saturdays to be a real option. Driving is the harder version of the evening: street parking on the side streets off Hollywood Blvd turns over slowly, and the nearby lots charge event rates. Rideshare pickup on Hollywood Blvd after a show is chaotic, so walk a block north to Carlos Ave and call from there.
