Mutate: Clawz w/ Dr Donk at Avalon Hollywood

The night before Thanksgiving is the one Wednesday a year when nobody has to be anywhere the next morning, and Mutate is treating it accordingly. On November 25 the party brings Clawz to Avalon Hollywood for an extended set, with special guest Dr Donk on the bill. Doors open at 10 p.m., the music runs to 2 a.m., and it's 21 and over. The Lineup

Clawz is a Los Angeles DJ and producer who works the harder end of rave techno: fast, percussive, built for a packed floor rather than a podcast. The flyer bills the night as "for the floor," and the extended-set format matters here. Instead of a tight festival hour, Clawz gets the whole arc of the night to build, which is where this style of techno actually breathes.

Dr Donk joins as special guest, billed as presenting zaagstep, the saw-bass strain of hard dance. Expect the tempo to stay up all night.

The Room

Avalon sits at 1735 Vine Street, a block south of Hollywood Boulevard in a building that opened as a theater in 1927. The balconies and high ceiling survived the conversion, the main floor faces a big stage, and the sound system has anchored EDM in Los Angeles through two decades of club series.
