Nightmare Realm: 2-Day Hard Dance Festival in Commerce

Halloween comes early to the hard end of the dial. Nightmare Realm is a two-night festival from Rave Haven, running Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17 at the Dirt Dog Compound in Commerce. Both nights go from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. across three stages, and tickets are $25. If you're hunting for LA EDM events with some teeth to them in mid-October, this is a strong pick.

Rave Haven isn't doing this alone. The promoter has pulled in several local collectives, and the flyer gives each stage its own host and its own flavor. The artwork leans all the way into the theme: flaming gothic gates, a Ferris wheel in the smoke, and a striped circus tent labeled "Carnival of the Damned."

Two Nights, Two Different Rooms

The nights aren't copies of each other, which is the best reason to think about going to both.

Friday runs hard dance, dubstep, riddim and hard techno. Per the flyer, Rave Haven itself hosts The Abyss with dubstep and riddim, Hard Havoc runs The Freak Show Tent with hard dance, and TMW takes The Asylum for hard techno.

Saturday shifts the mix toward hard dance, hard techno and bounce. The Freak Show Tent stays with Hard Havoc, The Abyss becomes a Hard Havoc and TMW joint room for hard techno and hard dance, and Neo Bounce hosts The Asylum with bounce all night.

So if riddim is your thing, Friday is your night. If you came for bounce, Saturday. Bass heads and hard techno fans can make a case for either.

The Lineup

The full lineup for both days is still TBA, and the organizers say it'll land on Instagram at Ravehaven.co. The listing promises "huge headliners and stacked lineup," but no names have been published yet, so check back before you pick a day.

What to Expect

The organizers list food, drinks, secure parking and festival-grade production and sound. The Dirt Dog Compound is an industrial lot in Commerce that's hosted other raves this year, and that setting suits a costume-friendly October show much better than a nightclub would. Expect an industrial, warehouse-district feel. Dress for a cool night that you'll still sweat through.

Commerce sits just southeast of downtown, off the 5 and near the 710. Parking is on site according to the organizers. Since the music ends at 3 a.m., line up a rideshare or a sober driver ahead of time.
