Most dance nights in this town wrap up around 2 a.m. Nightshift is built for what comes after. On Wednesday, October 7, The Lexington Bar in downtown Los Angeles opens its after-hours room for a free night of underground house, and the music runs until 5 a.m. If you keep track of EDM in Los Angeles beyond the big festival weekends, this is the kind of low-key midweek date that rewards the people who stay out.

When: Wednesday, October 7, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Where: The Lexington Bar, 129 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013 Price: Free with RSVP Age: 21+

What to expect

The organizers describe Nightshift as a real DTLA speakeasy that stays open after hours, seven nights a week, for people who like to dance all night. The lineup is a secret. Blind Tiger, an artist collective, curates the decks, and the event page makes the point that it matters less who is behind them than the sound itself: underground house, with the flyer naming house, tech and minimal as the lanes.

That secrecy is part of the draw. There is no headliner to chase and no set time to plan around. You show up late, find the room, and let the DJ carry the night. Doors open late and, in the organizers' words, the night does not end early.

Before you go

Practical details matter more than usual here, so read them first.

  • Entry is 21+ only. Bring ID.
  • The RSVP is free and valid before 1 a.m. Arrive after that and you are relying on room.
  • Capacity is limited, and entry is not guaranteed once the room is full.
  • Enter through the alley. The organizers are firm that you must use the alley entrance.
  • No flash photography or video, no song requests, no large bags, no LED accessories.
  • The organizers are not responsible for lost or stolen items, so travel light.

Reserve through the official DICE page linked below, and check it again the day of for any change.

Getting there

The Lexington Bar sits on East 3rd Street in the Historic Core of downtown, a short walk from the Metro B and D lines at Pershing Square and Historic Broad Ave stations. Rail service winds down well before 5 a.m., so plan a rideshare home. Street parking is thin at night, and nearby lots charge event rates.

A free Wednesday night out is also an easy answer if you are sorting through things to do in Los Angeles that do not cost anything. For more nights like this, browse our EDM listings or see what else is on in downtown Los Angeles.
