Thursday night is when a lot of people in this city decide whether the week is really over. Nightshift gives them a place to answer that question after the bars close. On Thursday, October 8, The Lexington Bar in downtown Los Angeles opens its after-hours room for a free night of underground house, with music running until 5 a.m. For anyone who follows EDM in Los Angeles beyond the big festival weekends, this is the kind of low-key date that rewards people who stay out.

When: Thursday, October 8, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Where: The Lexington Bar, 129 E 3rd St, Los Angeles, CA 90013 Price: Free with RSVP Ages: 21+

What to expect

The Blind Tiger artist collective curates the night, and the lineup stays secret. The organizers say it hardly matters who is behind the decks: the pitch is house music that makes you want to move whatever the day or hour. The flyer lists house, tech and minimal as the sounds on offer, so expect steady, hypnotic grooves rather than festival-sized drops.

The room is a speakeasy, which means it is small. That is the appeal. A packed floor, low light and a sound system pointed at a few dozen dancers feels very different from an arena show, and the late start means the energy builds well after midnight instead of fading.

Getting in

Entry is free, but you need an RSVP on DICE, and it is only valid before 1 a.m. Capacity is limited, and the organizers say entry is not guaranteed once the room is full, so arriving earlier is the safer play. Bring a valid ID, since the night is 21+ only.

You must enter through the alley, not the front of the building. Plan for the house rules too: no flash photography or video, no song requests, no large bags and no LEDs. The venue is not responsible for lost or stolen items, so travel light.

Getting there

The Lexington Bar sits on East 3rd Street in the Historic Core of downtown, a short walk from the Little Tokyo end of the neighborhood. Rideshare is the easy option at this hour, and it spares you a late-night parking search. The Metro A and E lines stop nearby at Little Tokyo/Arts District, but service thins out late, so check the last train before you rely on it.

If you are putting together a list of things to do in Los Angeles this week, this one costs nothing but a few minutes of RSVP time. More after-hours nights and club listings live on the EDM category page, and the rest of the neighborhood's calendar is on the Downtown LA page.

Event details come from the official DICE listing. Confirm the RSVP and the door policy there before you head out.
