Oppidan at Academy LA

Oppidan takes over Academy LA on Saturday, October 17, and it's one of the cleaner picks on the calendar if you're sorting through LA EDM events for the middle of October. The flyer keeps it simple: a yellow halftone portrait, the "OPP!" logo, and one name in heavy block letters. No long support list, no fine print about set times. That usually means the headliner is the night.

Doors open at 10 PM. The venue lists the show as 21 and over, and it means it. Your government ID has to match the name on the ticket, so if you're buying for a friend, put the ticket in their name.

Academy is a cashless venue. Cards and phone wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) work at the bar and the door. Cash doesn't, so don't count on a crumpled twenty.

Tickets are the part to get right. Academy says plainly that the only valid tickets come from TicketWeb, and in some cases TIXR. It has no connection to StubHub, Vivid Seats, Eventbrite or other resellers, and tickets bought there won't get you in. The TicketWeb link on this page is the official one. Price wasn't published on the venue's listing when we checked, so look on TicketWeb before you go. All sales are final.

The club sits at 6021 Hollywood Blvd, a short walk east of the Hollywood/Vine B Line station. Taking the train is the least painful way in on a Saturday. Rideshare pickups on the boulevard jam up after midnight, so walk to a side street like Gower or Argyle before you call a car. Nearby lots fill early on weekends, and meters on the side streets run late.

Plan on a line around 11 PM, when the room tends to fill all at once. If you'd rather dance than wait, show up close to doors.
