Outer Afters: Hard Techno Until Sunrise in DTLA

Most hard techno nights in this city wind down around 2 a.m. Outer Afters doesn't even open until just before midnight. Ravela and Climax are throwing it at a secret warehouse in Downtown LA on Saturday, October 3, and the name tells you the plan: this is where you go once the club lets out. Of all the LA EDM events on the fall calendar, it's one of the few built for people who aren't ready to go home at closing time.

When: Saturday, October 3, 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. (per the Posh listing) Where: SECRET LOCATION IN DTLA; the exact address isn't published Tickets: $8.00 on Posh, all sales final with no refunds

The lineup

Five DJs share the bill: Chamoy Baby, JAQ.XS, ARP8, Lonzo and Grandy. Nobody is billed as the headliner, and the flyer stacks all five names in one block of type, so expect a relay through the night rather than a warm-up that builds to one big closing set.

The tagline on the flyer reads "Schranz gets boring, make your night harder." That's a useful hint about tempo. Schranz is the pounding, heavily distorted strain of techno that came out of Germany in the late '90s, and a lot of the hard techno heard at raves in Los Angeles right now borrows its fast kicks and grinding texture. This crew is saying it plans to push past even that.

Hours and the fine print

The Posh listing puts the start at 11:45 p.m. and the end at 5 a.m. The flyer is looser and reads "11:59PM-SUNRISE." Plan around the listing, and don't be shocked if the last set runs long.

The price is the other thing that stands out. At $8, the door costs less than a single cocktail at most Hollywood clubs. Just be sure before you buy, since every sale is final. The listing doesn't state an age policy, so if you're under 21, check with the promoters first. You can text "OUT" to (833) 595-0508 for info, or DM @climaxevents.la on Instagram with questions.

Getting there

Because the venue is only listed as a secret location in DTLA, you won't know the block until the promoters share it. Sort out your ride home before you go in. At 5 a.m. on a Sunday, a rideshare is the realistic option, and prices tend to jump when a whole warehouse empties out at once. Bring a charged phone and a little cash, and eat something before midnight.

If you're scanning LA events this weekend for something cheap, loud and late, this one checks the boxes. For more nights like it, browse the EDM section or see what else is happening in Downtown LA.
