Rebuke at Academy LA in Hollywood

Rebuke headlines Academy LA on Saturday, October 3. If you like your tech house with some grit in it, this is one of the stronger EDM Los Angeles club bookings of the month. He's an Irish DJ and producer who spells it Rebūke on his artwork, and he's built his name on club floors, which is exactly what Academy is.

Who Rebuke is

He started making music at 12 under his given name, Reuben Keeney. The Rebuke project came later, in his twenties, and he's said the name is a play on that real name. His breakthrough was "Along Came Polly" on Hot Creations. It went to number one on Beatport and has passed 40 million streams.

Releases on Drumcode, Dirtybird and Ministry of Sound followed. In 2023 he teamed up with Anyma on "Syren" for Afterlife, which got heavy play in melodic techno sets that year. He launched his own label, ERA, in 2022.

The more useful clue is how he describes his own taste. He told Insomniac he's obsessed with Italian, Belgian and UK rave records from the early '90s, and that he tries to fuse their dirt and energy with modern house and techno. So plan on rolling basslines and old-school stabs, not a mellow lounge set.

The night at Academy

Academy's TicketWeb listing puts the start at 10 PM and names Rebuke as the only act on the lineup. No closing time is posted. It's 21 and over, and your government-issued ID has to match the name on your ticket.

Academy is cashless, so bring a card or a phone wallet. All sales are final. Tickets get emailed three days before the show, and if yours hasn't shown up 48 hours out, the venue says to contact TicketWeb.

Tickets and price

Tickets were listed from $19.95. When we checked TicketWeb, the current tier had moved up to $24.95, so expect it to keep climbing as the date gets closer. Academy says the only tickets valid for entry come from TicketWeb and TIXR. It has no association with StubHub, Vivid Seats or any other reseller, and it won't honor tickets bought there. Resale sites already list this show, so double-check where you're buying before you pay.

Getting there

The club is at 6021 Hollywood Blvd, a few blocks east of the Metro B Line's Hollywood/Vine station. That makes the train a decent way in. Getting home is the harder part, so check Metro's late-night schedule before you count on it, or plan a rideshare pickup a block off the boulevard, where the Saturday traffic thins out. If you drive, expect weekend event pricing at the lots nearby.
