Black Market Flea calls Shuga Shack its biggest party of the year, and this edition lands on Fright Night, the Friday before Halloween. The crew is taking over The Catwalk Club in downtown LA for five hours of hip-hop, funk and house. If you are mapping out LA events this weekend of October 30, this is the costume party to build the night around.
When: Friday, October 30, 9 PM to 2 AM Where: The Catwalk Club, 698 Harlem Place, Los Angeles (address as printed on the flyer) Tickets: From $23 on Posh Age: 21+
What to expect
The name is a nod to Ernie Barnes's painting "The Sugar Shack," the nostalgic image of a dance hall that hung in a lot of family homes. The organizers say the party is about losing yourself in the music and showing up as your most unashamed self. The Posh page promises DJs keeping the energy high all night, crafted drinks and bites.
The dress code is "Issa Costume Party," so commit to the bit. The genre tags (hip-hop, funk, house) point to a dance floor that moves between classic grooves and four-on-the-floor, which is a good fit for anyone who likes EDM in Los Angeles but wants a warmer, more soulful sound. No lineup was published at the time of writing, so check the ticket page for DJ announcements.
House rules
Black Market Flea asks guests to respect each other and the space, and says it has zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment or violence. The event is strictly 21+, so bring valid ID. The organizers also note that photo and video will be captured at the event.
Getting there
The Catwalk sits on Harlem Place in the downtown core, so rideshare is the easy call on a Halloween-weekend Friday, when street parking fills quickly. Tickets run from $23, and prices on events like this usually climb as the date gets closer, so grabbing one early is the safer move. Browse more of the neighborhood on our downtown LA page and the rest of the EDM category for other things to do in Los Angeles around Halloween.
