Sofi Tukker play the Greek Theatre on Saturday, September 19, with the night starting at 7:30 p.m. If you've only heard "Drinkee" or "Best Friend" on a playlist, the live show is a different animal: Sophie Hawley-Weld sings and plays guitar, Tucker Halpern works the decks and the pads, and the two of them spend most of the set on their feet rather than behind a booth.

The Duo

Sofi Tukker have been folding Brazilian and Portuguese-language vocals into house music since their first EP, and the pairing still doesn't sound like anyone else. Their tracks land somewhere between a festival main stage and a living-room dance party. The Bossa Nova Beats era leaned tropical, Wet Tennis leaned harder toward club rhythms, and the live version pulls from both, usually with a run of unreleased material dropped in without announcement.

Hawley-Weld's guitar is the part people don't expect. On record it's often buried under percussion. On stage it carries whole sections, which gives the set a band shape that most pop EDM acts skip entirely.

The Venue

The Greek Theatre sits in Griffith Park, 5,900 seats built into a hillside with eucalyptus and pine on all sides. There's no roof. September nights in that canyon drop into the low sixties once the sun's gone, so bring a layer even though you'll be standing for most of it. Sound in the bowl is good and the sightlines from the upper terraces are better than the price suggests.

Getting There

Driving up Vermont Canyon is the obvious move, and it's also the reason people miss opening sets. The Greek runs stacked parking, which means you leave when the car in front of you leaves. Rideshare drop-off is at the bottom of the hill, a walk of about ten minutes uphill. LADOT and the venue usually run shuttles from Downtown and the Metro B Line at Vermont/Sunset, which is the least painful option for a sold-out Saturday.

Food and drink are sold on site. Sealed water bottles are typically allowed, though bag rules change season to season.
