Steve Aoki is playing Academy LA on Thursday, October 29, billed as Dim Mak presents: Steve Aoki. That's his own label putting on the night, in a Hollywood club that holds a fraction of the crowds he usually plays to. If you're scanning LA EDM events for the week before Halloween, a Thursday with Aoki in a room this size is hard to beat.
Who's playing
Aoki started Dim Mak back in 1996, and he's been one of the most recognizable names in dance music for well over a decade. His sets lean loud and physical. Expect big-room drops, crowd shout-alongs, and yes, there's a real chance of a cake coming off the stage. He usually does that at festivals, though, and nobody can promise it'll happen at a club show.
He isn't doing the whole night alone. Academy lists five support acts: Bella Renee, Crumb Pit, Highsociety, Linney and Zachary Fremont. Set times haven't been posted yet, so if you want to catch one of the openers, show up closer to doors than to midnight.
Doors, age and tickets
Doors open at 10 PM PDT. It's 21 and over, and Academy says all sales are final.
TicketWeb lists tickets at $63.95 right now, and that could climb as the date gets closer. Academy is strict about where your ticket comes from: it only honors TicketWeb (and sometimes Tixr). Anything bought on StubHub, Vivid Seats, Eventbrite or another reseller won't get you in. Your government-issued ID has to match the name on the ticket, so taking a friend's spare off their hands isn't going to work.
The club is cashless. Bring a card, or pay with Apple, Google or Samsung Pay at the bar. If you're coming with a group, VIP tables are booked separately through Academy's site.
Getting there
Academy LA sits at 6021 Hollywood Blvd, a short walk east of the Hollywood/Vine Metro B Line station. The train is the easy option. Weeknight parking on the boulevard is less of a fight than on a Saturday, but lots near Vine still switch to event pricing when a big name is on. Check Metro's late schedule before you count on a ride home. Rideshare pickups go smoother a block off Hollywood Blvd than right out front.
More nights nearby
Academy has a packed fall calendar. Nicky Romero plays October 2, MORTEN lands on Halloween night, October 31, and Snakehips follows on November 6. For more EDM Los Angeles has coming up, browse the full EDM category, or check our Hollywood events page for everything else within walking distance. Aoki on a Thursday in a club this size is one of the bigger Things Happening In Hollywood that week, and doors don't open until 10.
