Twice a month, the bar room at Gold-Diggers hands its floor over to The Hustle, a first-and-third-Saturday party built entirely on disco records. The October 17 edition goes full Halloween. The flyer bills it as "A Halloween Disco Affair," costumes are clearly the move, and special guest Nicky Nicky the DJ takes the decks. It's free, it runs from 10:30pm to 2am, and when you're scanning lists of LA events this weekend for something that costs nothing and still delivers a real dance floor, free disco at a Hollywood bar is an easy yes.
When: Saturday, October 17, 10:30pm to 2am Where: Gold-Diggers, 5632 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles Price: Free Tickets: RSVP on DICE Special guest: Nicky Nicky the DJ
What to expect
Disco, start to finish. Most EDM in Los Angeles leans house and techno, and The Hustle digs back into the records those genres were built on: four-on-the-floor, strings, basslines you can sing. Nicky Nicky the DJ is the night's special guest, and with the party landing two weekends before the actual holiday, this is the rare night where a costume on October 17 won't feel premature. Sequins, polyester and anything that would've gotten you past the rope in 1978 all count.
Gold-Diggers itself is part bar, part hotel and part recording studio, and the bar side is intimate. The dance floor fills fast on a free night, so arriving near the 10:30pm start beats squeezing in at midnight. The Hustle returns on the first and third Saturday of every month, so if this one slips past you, the series doesn't.
Getting there
Gold-Diggers sits on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood, just west of Western Avenue. Street parking exists but takes patience on a Saturday night, so rideshare is the saner play, especially with a 2am close. Metro's Line 4 bus runs along Santa Monica Boulevard right past the door, and the B Line's Hollywood/Western station is about a mile north if you don't mind the walk. The party is free, but grab the RSVP through DICE so you're on the list before the room caps out.
If warehouse raves in Los Angeles aren't your speed, or you just want one night of glitter instead of lasers, this is the free one to circle. The rest of our EDM calendar has everything else happening around town this month.
