The Novo by Microsoft

Back in 2022, a song called "Patchmade" spread across TikTok fast enough that The Face later called it a jerk anthem. The kid behind it was Xavier Lopez, a rapper and producer from Manhattan's Upper West Side who records as Xaviersobased. On Thursday, October 1, he plays The Novo by Microsoft at L.A. Live, with DJ Rennessy alongside him. Ticketmaster lists the start time as 8 p.m. This one sits on the rap side of the dance floor, but it's loud, fast and built for moving, so we've filed it with our LA EDM events.

Who you're seeing

Xaviersobased took his name from Lil B's "based" style, and he and his collective 1c34 get credit for pushing jerk into a genre people now name out loud. The group started as friends playing Tony Hawk's Underground online during the 2020 lockdowns. The music came later.

His records don't sound tidy. Pitchfork once noted that the doubled beat on "Classist" is deliberate, so don't go checking your other browser tabs. The 2024 mixtape Keep It Goin Xav was hosted by DJ Rennessy, and so was #BasedSlime, his 2025 EP with OsamaSon. That's why the pairing on this bill makes sense: Rennessy has been the voice and the hands behind a lot of his releases. After signing to Atlantic, he put out the Once More EP in 2025 and his self-titled debut album, Xavier, in January 2026. He spent late summer opening for Ken Carson on the Xperimenting Tour, so he's arriving with plenty of stage time behind him.

What the night looks like

Expect short songs, layered and pitch-shifted vocals, and a crowd that knows every ad-lib. Rennessy handles the decks between and under the rap sets, which keeps the energy from dipping. Fans of Nettspend and Yhapojj will recognize the scene. If you only know "Patchmade," you'll still catch on quickly.

The room

The Novo sits inside the L.A. Live complex, across from Crypto.com Arena. It's a mid-size room with a general admission floor and a balcony, and the sound system has plenty of low end for this kind of bass-heavy set.

Tickets and getting there

Tickets go through Ticketmaster. The listing didn't publish a price when we checked, so look at the event page for current pricing, door time and any age policy before you head out.

The address is 800 West Olympic Blvd, Suite A335. Without a car, take the Metro A or E line to Pico Station, a short walk away. Drivers can use the paid L.A. Live garages, though rates climb when something's happening at the arena. If you're hunting for things to do in Los Angeles on a Thursday night, grab a bite at L.A. Live first and walk over.
