Most things to do with kids LA offers are built around the young ones being entertained. The 2026 DYD Youth Summit flips that. Titled "Built by Us," it is a full-day gathering from the Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development that puts young people's voices at the center of the program, and it costs nothing to attend.
When: Friday, October 16, 2026, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM Where: 1000 East 60th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90001 Price: Free (registration on Eventbrite) Organizer: Los Angeles County Department of Youth Development
What to expect
The organizers describe the day as a chance to uplift youth voices and shape a future that is truly "Built by Us." The official flyer shows what that looks like in practice: a packed room of young people at shared tables, a DJ setup with teens at the decks, and a hands-on art activity. It reads as a hands-on day more than a lecture series.
The Department of Youth Development is the county office focused on helping young people thrive, so the summit is a rare chance to meet that team, see what programs exist, and tell them directly what matters to you. The event page does not publish an hour-by-hour schedule, so check the Eventbrite listing before you go for any updates to the program.
Who it is for
This is a youth-focused event. If you are a teen or young adult in LA County, or a parent, guardian, teacher or youth worker who wants to support one, it is worth carving out the day. Families scanning kids activities LA has on the calendar for the fall will find this one different from a carnival or a pumpkin patch: it is about participation and ideas, not rides.
Getting there and practical info
The summit runs on a Friday during school hours, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, so groups from schools or youth programs may be the main audience. The address is 1000 East 60th Street in Los Angeles, in the 90001 area of South LA. Plan on traffic and parking time on a weekday morning, and consider Metro or a rideshare if you are coming from farther out.
Admission is free, but you should reserve a ticket through the official Eventbrite page rather than showing up unannounced. Registration is how organizers plan for capacity, food and materials.
If you are putting together a weekend plan, note that this one is on a Friday, so it will not be among the LA events this weekend. Pair it with the other family picks on our family events page when you build your fall calendar.
