If you're looking for family events Los Angeles can be proud of this holiday season, the Pantages Theater is delivering: Elf the Musical runs December 1 through December 13, 2026, bringing Buddy the Elf's North Pole misadventures to one of Hollywood's most iconic stages.

The story follows Buddy, a human orphan who crawled into Santa's gift sack as a baby and was raised by elves at the North Pole. When he discovers the truth about his origins, Buddy heads to New York City to find his biological father, a workaholic children's book publisher who has no idea what's about to walk through his office door. The show is a faithful adaptation of the Will Ferrell film, trading movie pratfalls for full-cast musical numbers that translate surprisingly well to the stage.

What to Expect

The show runs about two hours with one intermission. It's a proper Broadway-style production with full orchestration, big ensemble numbers, and the kind of physical comedy that plays even better when actors are actually in the room with you. The Pantages is a seated venue, so no one's blocking anyone's view, and the sightlines from most of the house are excellent.

Kids tend to light up during the scenes in Santa's workshop and the New York montage sequences. Adults who grew up with the film get plenty of knowing callbacks. It's not a dumbed-down holiday revue; it's a real musical that happens to be funny and warm at the same time.

Getting There

The Pantages sits at 6233 Hollywood Blvd in the heart of Hollywood, right at the Hollywood/Vine Metro station on the B Line (Red Line). If you're driving, street parking on side streets fills fast on show nights; paid lots on Vine and Cahuenga are the easier call.

This stretch of Hollywood Blvd is walkable and well-lit on theater nights, with dinner options ranging from fast-casual to sit-down within a few blocks in either direction. If you want to make an evening of it, book a table before the 7 or 8 PM curtain and walk over.

Check the LA Theatre Guide listing for current performance times and ticket availability. The Pantages books up on weekends, especially in the final week before Christmas, so grabbing tickets early is the move.

The run ends December 13, which leaves a solid two weeks before the holiday if you're planning a family outing around it.
