Funko is turning Los Angeles into a game board for one day. On Sunday, October 4, the collectibles company runs "The Hunt Is On," a real-world scavenger hunt built around the launch of its Funko POP! Mystery Wave 2 figures. Of all the free things to do with kids LA has lined up for early October, this one might have the best payoff, and the first clues are already out.

How the hunt works

The event listing on Discover Los Angeles lays it out in stages. It opens with trivia and puzzles. After that, players get an interactive map pointing to real places around the city, and you have to show up at them in person. The last leg is a Mystery-themed challenge that leads to the final prize: an exclusive Grand Grail Prize package.

Funko hasn't said what's in the package, how many winners there'll be, or which neighborhoods the map covers. That's on purpose. The whole thing runs on not knowing what's next.

Start looking now

Mysterious posters and QR codes started turning up around town on September 28. The listing calls those your first clue. If you pass one on a wall or a construction fence, scan it before someone tears it down.

Kids are usually better at spotting this stuff than adults, so give them the job. A week of poster-hunting on the way to school is half the fun before the real game even starts.

Registration details and the full rules are coming through Funko's own social accounts. Follow @funko and check again as the date gets closer. The listing doesn't say whether you'll need to sign up ahead of time, so don't count on walking in cold.

Who's going to love it

POP! figures are the big-headed vinyl collectibles lining shelves in a lot of kids' bedrooms (and plenty of adult offices). Serious collectors will be gunning for the Grail package. Families will probably get more out of the puzzles and the excuse to explore parts of the city they don't usually visit. It's one of the odder family events Los Angeles gets this fall, and it costs nothing, which helps.

Practical info

  • Date: Sunday, October 4, 2026. The listing shows it running all day, and Funko hasn't posted a start time yet.
  • Where: Real locations across Los Angeles, revealed through the hunt's interactive map.
  • Cost: The event listing describes it as free.
  • Full details: Discover Los Angeles event page

Since the stops won't be known until the map goes live, plan on moving around. A loaded TAP card is a good backup if parking near a stop turns ugly, and a portable phone charger matters more than usual: the posters run on QR codes and the middle stage runs on an interactive map.
