The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is turning its civic center lawn into a candy route on Saturday, October 17. The annual Trunk or Treat is free, aimed at families, and one of the easier picks if you are sorting through things to do with kids LA side this Halloween season.

When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 11 AM to 2 PM Where: Ken Dyda Civic Center, 30940 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes Price: Free

What to expect

Local businesses and community groups line the lawn with decorated car trunks, and kids walk the row collecting treats in a setting that feels safer and calmer than a neighborhood trick-or-treat run. The city's flyer lists a puppet show with music, inflatables, face painting, games and giveaways, plus food vendors on site for when the sugar runs low.

The costume parade is the centerpiece. A center stage is set up for it, and the organizers invite both kids and grown-ups to show off their spooky, silly or sweet outfits. If your family likes to commit to a theme, this is the crowd for it.

Parking and getting there

The civic center sits on Hawthorne Blvd in the South Bay hills. The city advertises additional free parking with a shuttle from the Point Vicente Interpretive Center at 31501 Palos Verdes Dr. West, which is worth knowing because event lots tend to fill early. Plan to arrive near the start if you want the full trunk lineup before the lines build.

The event is mid-day, so it works for younger kids who would be asleep by a typical evening Halloween. Bring a bag for candy, sunscreen or a hat for the lawn, and comfortable shoes for the walk from the shuttle.

Volunteer a trunk

The Recreation and Parks Department is still looking for volunteers to host a decorated trunk and hand out treats. Interested businesses and families can email events@rpvca.gov. Hosting is a good way to take part if you have a car and a few bags of candy.
