Downtown San Pedro closes out October with its 15th annual Dia de los Muertos Festival on Sunday, October 25, 2026. It is free, it runs into the evening, and it sits right in the heart of the waterfront district at 6th and Mesa. If you are collecting family events Los Angeles has to offer this fall, this is one of the most colorful.
When: Sunday, October 25, 2026, 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM Where: Downtown San Pedro, 6th and Mesa Price: Free Organizer: Downtown San Pedro
What to expect
The festival is built around live entertainment. The Mariachi Divas headline the music, and local youth dance groups take the stage too, so there is a good mix of polished performance and neighborhood pride. Between sets you can wander the street for food vendors, artisan craft booths and an ofrenda contest exhibition, where altars honoring loved ones are displayed and judged.
Kids have their own corner of the festival. Crafts are part of the lineup, and the costume spirit is contagious: visitors are encouraged to come dressed in Day of the Dead style, with painted faces, flower crowns and catrina outfits all welcome. The festival poster also lists a catrina costume contest and a beer garden for the grown-ups.
Why go
Day of the Dead is about remembering family with color and joy, which makes it an easy fit for all ages. Parents hunting for things to do with kids LA offers around Halloween will find that this one adds some cultural depth: the altars give you a natural way to talk about the holiday, and the music keeps everyone moving.
Getting there
The festival takes place in Downtown San Pedro at the corner of 6th Street and Mesa Street, a short walk from the shops and restaurants of the district. Street parking and nearby lots fill up as the evening goes on, so arrive a bit early or plan to carpool. Wear comfortable shoes, since the festival is a walking affair, and bring a light layer for when the sun goes down.
A note on hours: the event listing gives 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, while the festival poster says 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Plan for the later close and check the organizer's social pages (@downtownsanpedro) for any day-of changes. For more details, visit the event listing linked above.
