Trunk or Treat is the tame, well-lit cousin of door-to-door trick-or-treating: families walk a parking lot where car trunks have been turned into little haunted displays, and kids collect candy from each one. St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Upland is hosting its version on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and it's free. It sits east of the city proper, so it's one for families willing to make a short drive out of town, but it earns a spot on any list of family events Los Angeles area parents are weighing before Halloween.

When: Saturday, October 24, 2026, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Where: St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 330 E 16th Street, Upland, CA 91784 Price: Free Organizer: St. Mark's Episcopal Church

What to expect

The flyer promises candy, costumes, fun and community, and that's the whole idea. Members of the church community decorate their trunks, line them up, and hand out treats as families wander the rows. Costumes are encouraged, so kids can wear theirs for the first time before the real Halloween night.

There's also food. The flyer says the first 300 attendees get a free hot dog, chips and bottled water, which turns the event into an easy early dinner. Because the window runs from 4 to 7 PM, you can come in daylight with little ones and still catch the lights as the sky darkens.

If you're building a shortlist of things to do with kids LA families can enjoy without paying for admission, this is the sort of low-key neighborhood gathering that tends to be a hit with younger children. Nobody needs a ticket and there is no listed registration.

Tips for going

  • Arrive early. The free meal is capped at the first 300 people, and trunk lines are shortest at the start.
  • Bring a bag or bucket for candy and wear shoes that are fine on asphalt.
  • Costumes that handle a cool evening work best, so think layers under the cape.
  • Keep a hand on small children, since the event is held in a parking lot with cars nearby.

Getting there

St. Mark's is at 330 E 16th Street in Upland, in San Bernardino County, a short hop from the Los Angeles County line. From most of the San Gabriel Valley it's a straightforward drive east on the 10 or the 210. Expect a busy lot at peak hours, so allow a few extra minutes for street parking nearby.

Before you go

Details like times and food supplies can change, so check the AllEvents listing or call the church at (909) 920-5565, the number printed on the flyer, before heading out. For more kids activities LA and the Inland Empire have lined up this month, browse our family events category.
