Brass, tuba and big choruses take over a downtown park on Sunday, October 25, when Banda Fest sets up a free concert at Pershing Square. It is one of the more generous entries on the list of things to do in Los Angeles this fall: a full bill of Mexican banda groups, and nobody pays at the gate.
What to expect
The flyer and the Eventbrite listing name Banda Limon, Banda Maguey, Banda Vallarta Show and Banda Zarape, plus "y mas" (and more), so expect a long afternoon of back-to-back sets. These are large ensembles built around trumpets, trombones, clarinets, tubas and drums, and the music is made for singing along and dancing. The poster also shows Hechizeros Band on the bill. The promoter bills it as a concierto gratis, a free concert with RSVP.
Banda is a staple of Southern California's Mexican American music scene, and a free outdoor bill with this many groups is not something you see every weekend. If you are putting together plans around LA events this weekend or the one after, this one is worth blocking out.
Event details
When: Sunday, October 25, 2026. Doors at 2 p.m., with the listing running until 11 p.m. Where: Pershing Square, 532 S Olive St, Los Angeles, CA 90013 Price: Free, with an RSVP on Eventbrite Ages: 21+ per the flyer
Tips for getting there
Pershing Square sits in the middle of downtown, so the Metro B and D Line station at Pershing Square drops you at the park itself. Several nearby garages charge event rates on weekends, and rideshare drop-off along Olive Street is easy. Arrive early if you want a spot near the stage. The RSVP is free, but a ticket reserves your place and does not promise entry once the park reaches capacity, so check the Eventbrite page for the latest rules before you go.
Bring ID, since the flyer lists the event as 21+. A hat and sunscreen help for the early afternoon, and a light layer is smart once the sun goes down in late October.
Make a day of it
Downtown has plenty within a short walk: the Historic Core's old theaters, Grand Central Market for tacos and pupusas before the music starts, and the Last Bookstore a few blocks away. For more picks nearby, browse Downtown LA or the full list of festivals on the site. Anyone hunting for upcoming events in Los Angeles that cost nothing should save this date.
Check the Eventbrite listing to RSVP and confirm the lineup before you head out.
