On Sunday, October 11, 2026, CicLAvia transforms 6.5 miles of LA streets into a car-free corridor stretching from Echo Park through Downtown, Chinatown, Little Tokyo, the Arts District, and into Boyle Heights. No entry fee, no registration required. Just show up.

The route ties together neighborhoods that don't often feel connected on foot. You can walk the whole stretch in a few hours, bike it in under an hour, or just park yourself at one of the activity hubs and watch the city move. CicLAvia runs 9am to 4pm, so there's plenty of time to explore at whatever pace makes sense.

This is one of the best things to do in Los Angeles if you want to see the city differently. The usual roar of traffic drops away and the streets fill with families pushing strollers, cyclists of every skill level, skaters, joggers, and people who just want to be outside. The crowd itself is one of the draws.

LA's festivals rarely cover this much ground or this many distinct communities in a single afternoon. The Heart of LA route is particularly good at that. Boyle Heights brings its own energy, Little Tokyo has vendors and plazas worth stopping at, and the Arts District tends to have pop-up activity along the corridor. You'll find food trucks, local businesses that open their doors to the street, and informal musicians setting up at corners.

If you're biking, the route is mostly flat and well-suited for casual riders. Families with kids do it regularly. Bring water because the October sun in LA can still be warm, even mid-morning.

Getting there by Metro is the practical choice. The Gold Line stops at Little Tokyo/Arts District and at Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights, putting you right on the route. The Red and Purple lines serve Downtown. Driving and parking near an open-streets event this large is an exercise in frustration, so don't.

CicLAvia happens several times a year, but the Heart of LA route has a following because of how many neighborhoods it threads together. If you've never been, this is a straightforward introduction to one of LA's genuinely good recurring events. If you go regularly, you already know to arrive before 10am when the streets are freshest.

Admission is free. No tickets, no wristbands. The route opens at 9am and closes at 4pm on October 11. For the full map and any route updates closer to the date, check the CicLAvia events page.

This is one of those upcoming events in Los Angeles that fills up neighborhood social feeds every time it's announced, and for good reason. Plan accordingly.
