Dwell magazine has spent two decades championing home design, and its Open House series takes that work out of the print issue and into real living rooms. On Saturday, October 17, the tour returns to Los Angeles with three private Eastside residences the magazine has featured, plus a morning start at one of the city's most important landmarks. If you are scanning LA events this weekend for something a little different from a concert or a street fair, this is a quiet, design-minded option.

When: Saturday, October 17, 2026 (start time chosen at checkout) Where: Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 Price: From $199 Tickets: Limited, sold per tour time on Eventbrite

What the day includes

Guests check in at their chosen start time at Barnsdall Art Park, home of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House and the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Los Angeles. The morning begins with coffee and conversation, along with complimentary access to the house itself.

From there the tour turns self-paced. You get roughly three hours to visit three homes, and the organizers say tickets are capped for each tour time to avoid crowding and keep conversation easy. Featured homes listed on the event page include:

  • Baxter House in Silver Lake, an EYRC Architects design perched on one of the steepest streets in the city
  • Bernardi House in Silver Lake, a sculptural Fritz Haeg house refreshed by its new owners
  • Clive Wilkinson Residence in Palms, where the architect draws on the best of L.A. living

Your ticket also covers a one-year subscription or renewal to Dwell.com, a tote with the latest issue and a special event publication, and first access plus discounts to future Dwell home tours.

Planning your visit

The homes are private residences, so the listing's FAQ is worth a read before you go. It addresses when you find out where to go, parking, accessibility, bags, what happens if you are late and media recording. The refund policy is listed as no refunds.

The route runs between Hollywood, Silver Lake and Palms, so plan on driving between stops and leave room for traffic. Comfortable shoes help, since you will be on and off hillside streets and through multiple entryways.

Why it is worth the ticket

Most things to do in Los Angeles that involve architecture mean looking at a house from the sidewalk. This one puts you inside. It suits architecture fans, design students, and anyone who has wondered what a hillside modernist house feels like from the kitchen.
