Redondo Beach is doing Oktoberfest its own way this year. King Harbor Oktoberfest sets up on the waterfront at 239 N Harbor Dr, and the organizers have boiled the whole idea down to a four-word theme: Harbor Vibes & Bavarian Bites. Picture blue-and-white Bavarian flags next to surfboards and sailboats, and you've basically got it.
If you're scanning LA events this weekend for something that doesn't cost anything to walk into, this one's worth a look. Admission is free. You only pay for what you eat and drink.
What to expect
The flyer promises live music, games and a kids area, which tells you this is a community afternoon rather than a beer-hall crush. Food, beer and wine are all available for purchase, and the menu leans Bavarian. Think pretzels and the kind of heavy, salty food that goes well with a cold lager and an ocean breeze.
Beer and wine are 21 and over, so bring ID even if you're sure you look old enough. Parents can let the kids burn off energy in their own area while the adults work through a stein.
The setting is the real draw here. Most Oktoberfest events around town happen in parking lots or brewery patios. This one sits right on King Harbor, with boats in the marina and the pier close by. Plenty of Oktoberfest celebrations pop up across the county every fall, but few put you this close to the water.
Dates and times
The event listing on our calendar is for Saturday, September 26. The source listing and the official flyer both describe a two-day run on September 26 and 27, from 12pm to 7pm, so Sunday may be an option too. Schedules can change, so confirm with the organizers before you drive down.
Getting there
King Harbor sits along North Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach, in the South Bay. From most of the Westside it's a straight shot down the 405 or along PCH. Waterfront parking fills up quickly on a warm weekend afternoon, so arrive early or plan to walk in from a side street. Biking the Strand is a nice alternative if you're coming from Hermosa or Manhattan Beach.
Afternoon sun on the harbor can be strong even in late September. Bring sunscreen and a layer, since the breeze picks up as the day goes on.
Why it's on our list
Free, outdoorsy and easy for families, it's one of the easier things to do in Los Angeles this weekend if you want a low-effort afternoon by the water. Browse more festivals or check what else is coming up around Los Angeles. For more Things Happening In Los Angeles, keep an eye on our events calendar. Then go grab a pretzel and watch the boats come in.
