Mom Said Yes Pizza Torrance

Mom Said Yes, the pizza bar on Calle Mayor in Torrance, is throwing its own Oktoberfest on Saturday, September 26, and you don't need a ticket to walk in. Entry is free, kids are welcome, and the whole thing runs from 11 AM until close. If you're scanning LA events this weekend for something low-effort that the whole family can do, this one's about as easy as it gets in the South Bay.

The organizers say they're going bigger this year. That mostly means more stuff to do between beers: bounce houses, a cash-prize tournament, and a contest that's really just a test of how long your shoulder holds out.

The schedule

The day is built around three set pieces, and everything else floats around them.

  • 11:00 AM: Bounce houses open. They're free all day, so the kids can burn off energy while the adults settle in.
  • 1:00 PM: The beer pong tournament starts. This part is 21+ only.
  • 4:00 PM: The beer stein holding competition. You hold a full stein straight out at arm's length, and the last person still holding wins prizes.
  • All day: Fresh pretzels, house beer cheese and prize giveaways, plus the regular menu.

The beer pong tournament

This is the one to plan for. It's $40 per team, two players to a team, and that fee covers a drink for each of you. First place takes home $500 cash.

There's a catch, and it's worth knowing early. The bracket holds 32 teams, but only 26 spots are sold online. The other six are held back for the bar's regulars. So if you want in, register on Eventbrite rather than hoping to grab a slot at the door.

Both players need to be 21 or older with valid ID. Check-in closes at 12:45 PM sharp, and no-shows lose their spot. Don't roll in at 12:50 expecting mercy.

The venue

Mom Said Yes is a New York-style thin-crust pizza place that doubles as a sports bar and party room. The dough ferments for four days, which is the kind of detail a pizza nerd will appreciate between rounds. Inside you'll find 17 big screens, two projectors and a full retro arcade, so there's plenty to keep you busy if the beer pong bracket isn't your thing. On a normal week the room hosts live music, comedy, trivia, karaoke and game-day watch parties.

Practical info

The address is 4525 Calle Mayor, Torrance, CA 90505, and there's free parking on site. That's a real perk compared with most beer festivals around town. The bar's phone number is (310) 921-8083 if you have questions before you go.

General admission costs nothing. The only paid part is the $40 beer pong team entry, and the listing states there are no refunds on that. Tournament registration on Eventbrite closes at noon on the day of the event.

It's a solid pick if you're looking for things to do in Los Angeles that don't involve a drive into Hollywood or downtown. Grab a pretzel, dunk it in the beer cheese, and watch someone's arm start shaking around minute two of the stein hold.
