Taste of Soul is back on Crenshaw Boulevard for its 21st year on Saturday, October 17, 2026. The party runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the stretch of Crenshaw between Stocker Street and Obama Boulevard, and it costs nothing to get in. If you're putting together a fall list of free things to do in Los Angeles, this one goes near the top.
LAist is one of the outfits setting up along the route. The nonprofit newsroom, which also runs the 89.3 FM NPR station, will have a booth where you can stop by, say hi and grab some swag. That booth is the reason this listing exists, but it's a small piece of a very long day on the boulevard.
Who puts it on
Bakewell Media presents the festival and the Los Angeles Sentinel produces it. The Sentinel has covered Black Los Angeles for decades, and its logo sits right on this year's flyer. Radio station 94.7 The WAVE is a presenting partner too. Organizers call Taste of Soul the largest free one-day street festival on the West Coast. The flyer says it with less ceremony: "Free block party on the Shaw!!"
What to expect
Food is the draw for a lot of people. Last year's edition counted more than 100 food vendors, with soul food, Caribbean plates and vegan options all on the street. The popular stands build lines by early afternoon, so eat early if you hate waiting.
Music runs on multiple stages all day. The WAVE's listing promises R&B, soul, gospel and hip-hop, plus special appearances. No full lineup has been posted yet. If you're coming for one particular act, check back closer to the date.
Between the food and the stages, small businesses and community groups set up along the curb. LAist's own listing mentions wellness resources and health information alongside the family activities, and calls the whole day "a party with a purpose." KJLH, which is also heading to Crenshaw for the day, calls it "the ultimate family reunion." That's a fair read. Grandparents, strollers and teenagers all end up sharing the same sidewalk.
Practical info and getting there
- When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Where: Crenshaw Blvd between Stocker St. and Obama Blvd. LAist lists the address as 3800 Crenshaw Blvd, Los Angeles.
- Cost: Free
- Ages: All ages, billed as a family festival
- Details: LAist's event listing
The festival takes over the street itself, so don't count on driving down Crenshaw that day. Metro is the easier move. The K Line stops at Martin Luther King Jr. station, right at Crenshaw and MLK in the middle of the festival stretch. Expo/Crenshaw, where the E Line also stops, is a few blocks north of Obama Boulevard. Check Metro's service alerts that morning in case of detours. If you do drive, park on a side street a few blocks out and walk in.
Mid-October in South LA can still run warm. Bring water and sunscreen. Wear shoes you won't mind standing in for hours, because between the food lines and the stages, you'll be on your feet most of the day.
