Vegan Street Fair

Vegan Street Fair used to be a once-a-year thing in LA. Now it's monthly, and the September edition moves to night hours: Sunday, September 27, from 3pm to 9pm on Broxton Avenue in Westwood Village. Entry is free. If you're hunting for LA events this weekend that won't cost you anything to walk into, this one's hard to beat.

The format is simple, and it's the reason people keep coming back. Vendors sell bite-size portions instead of full plates, so you can graze your way down the block, try a dumpling here and a corn dog there, and still have room for a cookie at the end. Organizers bill it as the world's largest vegan festival, and the monthly LA series is its newest location, run in partnership with the Westwood Village Improvement Association.

Who's cooking

Expect 30-plus vegan and vegan-friendly vendors. The early list includes Cena Vegan, El Compa Vegano, Green Bites LA, Little Jasmine Foods, Veggietize Me, Tortas Las Jarochitas, and Maya's Cookies, which drives up from San Diego. Plenty of smaller pop-ups round it out, and the vendor roster usually keeps growing until the week of the fair, so check the event's Instagram if you're chasing a specific stall.

You don't have to be vegan to go. The organizers say so plainly: come as you are, no judgment. A lot of the crowd is just curious about plant-based food and wants a cheap way to sample a bunch of it.

Beyond the food

September adds something new: a 21+ beer garden run by Tap Truck Beach Cities. Bring ID. There's also live music from Plant Based Amor and DJ Mike Sincere, kids' activities, and general street-fair entertainment. The event is all ages, family friendly, dog friendly, and listed as fully accessible.

Sponsors are putting together a swag bag with snacks and beauty products from brands like Hippeas, Confetti Snacks, and Earth Science Beauty. Swag bags go to VSF members; the organizers say you can sign up by commenting "SWAG" on their Instagram.
