If you are tracking LA food festivals this fall, the James Beard Foundation's Taste America is one of the more focused ones. It is a walk-around tasting built around independent restaurants rather than big-name sponsors, and the Los Angeles stop lands at The LINE Hotel on Tuesday, October 6.
When: Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 3:00 to 7:00 PM Where: The LINE Hotel, Los Angeles Tickets: $175 general admission, $225 premier Presented by: James Beard Foundation
What to expect
Taste America is a national series. A group of chefs from 20 markets, called the TasteTwenty, host dinners and tastings that spotlight local independent restaurants. In Los Angeles, the format is a standing, wander-between-stations evening. Each chef sets up a table with a signature bite, and beverage stations fill in the rest.
The host chefs for the Los Angeles tasting are Anna Sonenshein and Niki Vahle of Little Fish Melrose Hill. The listings we found also name more than ten restaurants taking part, including Linden, Bridgetown Roti, Komal, KI, RasaRumah, Camélia, Maydan LA, Azizam and Betsy. That is a wide spread of cuisines, from Caribbean roti to Persian and Middle Eastern cooking, so there is no single flavor profile to plan around.
The foundation says the evening also includes activations from national and local sponsors. Treat the exact menu as a moving target and check the official page before you go.
Tickets and planning
General admission is $175 and the premier tier is $225. The foundation's page lists what each tier includes, so read it before you buy. Because this is a ticketed tasting with a fixed window, arrive early if you want time at every station.
The event runs on a weekday afternoon into early evening, which makes it a good pick if you are sorting through things happening in Los Angeles this week and want something that isn't a late night. The LINE sits on Wilshire in Koreatown, with rideshare and Metro options nearby, and parking in the area is tight, so leave yourself a cushion.
The hotel is also offering a stay-over deal tied to the event, per the foundation's page. If you would rather not drive home after a few hours of tasting, it is worth a look.
Why it is worth a trip
Most food events in the city lean on a single cuisine or a single chef. This one is a snapshot of how varied the independent scene is right now, and the money you spend supports a foundation that works on the restaurant community. For anyone building a list of things to do in Los Angeles this week, it is a rare chance to sample this many kitchens in one room.
