Smorgasburg Los Angeles turns its regular Sunday market into a Diwali celebration on October 18. The Smorgasburg Diwali Edition brings Indian and South Asian restaurants, one-off culinary collaborations and a Desi DJ to ROW DTLA in Downtown Los Angeles. If you're mapping out LA events this weekend, this is an easy one to build a Sunday around.
When: Sunday, October 18, 2026, 10 AM to 4 PM Where: Smorgasburg Los Angeles, ROW DTLA, Downtown Los Angeles Cost: Free entry (food and drink sold separately)
What's on the menu
The vendor list leans on some of the city's best-known South Asian kitchens. Participating restaurants include Khan Saab, Fitoor, Kurrypinch, Badmaash, Masalawali Chai and Bombay Beach. Alongside them, the lineup features exclusive collaborations with cookbook author Khushbu Shah, Brooklyn Delhi and Shan Foods Global. Collaboration items tend to be one-day-only, so they are worth hunting down early.
Brown Girl Magazine also sets up on site with South Asian vendors, which gives the day a shopping side beyond the food stalls. A DJ spins Desi music through the afternoon, and the event flyer promises interactive activities and dance performances too.
Why it's worth going
Diwali, the festival of lights, is about sweets, family and a table full of shared plates, and a market like Smorgasburg suits that well. You can graze across a dozen kitchens in one pass: a chaat here, a curry there, then a masala chai to finish. It's one of the more fun LA food festivals of the fall because the lineup is specific and the setting is open-air and relaxed.
Practical info
Admission is free, so the only real cost is what you order. Go earlier if you want the full range before popular items sell out, and bring a friend so you can split plates and try more. Smorgasburg's outdoor setup means sunscreen and comfortable shoes are the smart move.
ROW DTLA sits on Alameda Street at the edge of the Arts District, close to the Metro system and with paid parking nearby. Rideshare is the simplest option if you plan to eat and drink. Schedules and vendor lineups can shift, so check Smorgasburg's official channels the morning of the event before you head out.
