Knott's Berry Farm began in 1923 as Walter and Cordelia Knott's roadside berry stand. It's now a 57-acre Six Flags park in Buena Park, and it didn't charge admission until 1968. You still need a ticket for the rides, but a good piece of the Knott story sits outside the gates and costs nothing to walk through, so it's worth planning around that.

What's Worth Seeing

Start outside. Knott's Independence Hall is a free, brick-by-brick copy of the Philadelphia building, paid for by Walter Knott, with a replica Liberty Bell and an audio reenactment of the debate over independence. Visit Buena Park lists its hours.

The California Marketplace, also outside the gates, has Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant, which opened in 1934 with Cordelia Knott and her children serving guests in a tea room. The same stretch holds a bakery and the Berry Market, with Knott's jams and jellies. Visit Buena Park credits Walter Knott and Rudolph Boysen with the boysenberry, from 1926.

Inside, Ghost Town dates to 1941, when Walter Knott built it to give people something to do while they waited for a table. The Ghost Town & Calico Railroad is a heritage narrow-gauge line whose two steam locomotives were built in 1881. Timber Mountain Log Ride opened in 1969 and is one of the oldest log flumes in the country.

In Fiesta Village, Jaguar! is a family coaster that passes through the top of a Mayan-style temple, with a 48-inch height minimum. MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress is the refurbished version of a 1978 looping shuttle coaster. It closed in 2022 and came back in August 2026.

The park is card only. If you're carrying cash, there are kiosks that turn it into a prepaid card for free. Check the ride closures page before you go.

How to Get There

The park is at 8039 Beach Blvd in Buena Park. Regular parking lots open about an hour before the park does, and the map and directions page has the parking map and rates. A single-day parking pass doesn't let you back into the lot once you leave.

If you only want the Marketplace or Independence Hall, use the Metered Lot by the Marketplace. The first hour is free, and a validated purchase gets you more, but it gets expensive fast after that, so don't leave the car there for a park day.

By train, take Metrolink to Buena Park station at 8400 Lakeknoll Drive, then an OCTA bus down Beach Boulevard to the gates.

Nearby

  • Knott's Soak City is the separately gated water park right next door, open on select dates in summer.
  • The Los Coyotes Paleontology Museum in Ralph B. Clark Regional Park is a free fossil center with a baleen whale skeleton. Hours depend on volunteers, so call first.
  • Disneyland in Anaheim is the other big Orange County park, and it needs a reservation as well as a ticket.
