Six Flags Magic Mountain is a 209-acre coaster park in Valencia, about 35 miles northwest of downtown LA, open since 1971. Its ride list has moved around a lot lately, so an old guide or a friend's memory can steer you wrong. Superman: Escape from Krypton closed for good in 2025, and X2 closed for good in 2026. Check the scheduled closures page and the park's app before you decide what the day is about.
What's Worth Seeing
Coasters are the reason to come. Goliath is the tallest ride at 235 feet, and Revolution, from 1976, was the first modern steel coaster with a 360-degree loop. Twisted Colossus opened in 2015 as a rebuild of the old Colossus. Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom is a drop tower in DC Universe, and Wonder Woman Flight of Courage is there too.
The park itself has a tip worth using: it lists Tatsu, Full Throttle and Lex Luthor among its most popular thrill rides and suggests riding those early in the day or after 6 pm.
With younger kids, look at Looney Tunes Land, which opened in June 2026 and replaced Bugs Bunny World and Whistlestop Park. Road Runner Express and Canyon Cruiser are its junior coasters. During Fright Fest it closes at 6 pm on event nights, so go early then.
Hurricane Harbor next door is a separately gated water park of 22 acres, with slides, a wave pool and a lazy river. It has its own tickets and its own calendar, so don't assume a Magic Mountain ticket covers it.
A few rules to plan around. You can't bring in food, drinks or coolers, apart from infant food and allergy exceptions. If you leave and want to come back, get your hand stamped at the re-entry gate, and there's no re-entry within two hours of closing.
How to Get There
Take Interstate 5 to the Magic Mountain Parkway exit in Valencia. The park is at 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy. Parking comes in general, preferred and front gate levels, and the parking page keeps the current rates. The directions page links the park map.
Without a car, Metrolink lists this route: the Antelope Valley Line to Newhall Station, Santa Clarita Transit to the McBean Regional Transit Center, then route 3 or 7 to the park.
Nearby
- William S. Hart Park in Santa Clarita is the ranch of 1920s film actor William S. Hart, with a guided house tour. The museum reopened in April 2026.
- Placerita Canyon Natural Area has oak groves and the Oak of the Golden Dream, the site of California's first gold discovery in 1842. It's closed Mondays, and there's no parking on Placerita Canyon Road.
Where It Is
About 32 miles from downtown LA in a straight line.
