DINKS Sitcom Taping: Free Audience Tickets in LA

Most sitcom tapings ask the audience to laugh on cue and stay quiet otherwise. DINKS (Dual Income No Kids) wants more from you. It's an improvised multi-camera sitcom, and 1iota says the studio audience will get to toss out suggestions for the improvised parts of the show. Tickets are free. If you're hunting for things to do in Los Angeles that cost nothing and that you can't just stream later, this is a good one.

The show

The premise, per 1iota: Josh and Charlie aren't married and don't have kids, so they decide to build their lives together in the most literal way possible. They buy a house and renovate it, and the house is described as "their nightmare of a dream house." That's a setup built for physical comedy and for couple arguments over tile samples.

The show's key art credits Marta Kauffman and Hannah KS Canter as creators and lists Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael and Jon Gabrus as stars. Improv on a multi-cam stage is unusual. Scripted sitcoms re-run the same joke three times. Here, the scenes can shift based on what the room hands the cast.

Bring something (Oct 2 only)

The Friday, October 2 taping comes with a twist. 1iota asks everyone to bring an item that might end up in the show. Some items get collected before taping starts, while the crew gathers improv suggestions. Items collected most likely won't come back to you at the end, so leave anything sentimental at home. A weird kitchen gadget or a thrift-store lamp is the right energy.

Tickets are free and go through 1iota, the official audience service for the taping. Make a free account, open the DINKS page and request a date. The age limit is 18 and up, and minors aren't allowed.

Know this going in: audience services overbook on purpose, because lots of people cancel or never show. A confirmed ticket gets you priority in line, not a guaranteed seat. When the audience section fills, the rest of the line goes home. Get there early.

1iota lists the location only as Los Angeles, CA. Check-in details usually arrive with your confirmation email, so hold off on planning parking or a rideshare until you have it.
