Punjabi Daytimer on the Level 8 Rooftop in DTLA

Radio5 Events has been throwing a monthly Bollywood party in Los Angeles since 2008, and they're the crew behind Holi & The Beach and Masala Rave. On Saturday, October 3, they take their first swing at a Punjabi daytimer, and they picked a good roof for it: Golden Hour, the rooftop bar on Level 8 at the top of the Moxy building on South Figueroa. If your list of things to do LA nightlife usually starts after dark, this one runs in daylight and still ends with the skyline lit up.

What the day looks like

The listing runs it from 2 PM to 9 PM, seven hours in total. The lineup is billed only as secret special guest DJs, so don't go in expecting a named headliner. What the promoters do promise is the sound: Punjabi anthems, UK bhangra, Punjabi house edits and global club tracks, mixed together for a dance floor that stays full through the afternoon.

There's more going on than music. A henna bar is part of the setup, along with vendors, complimentary goodies and brunch. The roof itself has a gold carousel bar in the middle, a pool and cabanas around the edge, and the views reach across Downtown in every direction.

Dress code, and they mean it

This is the part to read twice. The organizers ask for boho, desert chic, Mykonos or St. Tropez style clothing. Hoodies, hats and sportswear are out, and the door has final say. Tickets aren't refunded if you get turned away for what you're wearing, and Eventbrite lists the event as no refunds in general.

The building sits across from Crypto.com Arena and L.A. Live, so check the arena calendar before you drive in. Game or concert nights fill the garages fast. The Metro A and E lines stop at Pico Station, which is a short walk south on Flower Street. Rideshare drop-off on Figueroa is usually easiest.

If you're putting together a list of LA events this weekend and want something that isn't another late-night club, this fits. Get there early, since a rooftop at 2 PM in October can still run warm, and the shaded cabana spots go first.
