If you are lining up LA events this weekend and don't mind a drive east into Riverside County, The Ruck Challenge is a good way to spend a Saturday morning. The 10th annual 5K/10K walk/run takes over American Legion Post 328 in Norco on October 17, 2026, and every step goes toward supporting veterans.

When: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 8:00 AM (check-in opens at 6:30 AM) Where: American Legion Post 328, 3888 Old Hamner Rd, Norco, CA 92860 Cost: $60.00 registration, listed on the ticket page as a donation Presented by: Reaching New Heights Foundation

What to expect

The Ruck Challenge, often shortened to TRC, has been running since 2015. The organizers describe it as a chance to ruck, run or walk, get active, connect with your community and show support for the men and women who served. You pick the 5K or the 10K, and you can go at your own pace. Rucking simply means walking with a loaded pack, so some participants will be carrying weight while others show up in running shoes and a costume.

The flyer says the day is open to veterans and to non-military families alike, with everyone welcome. Every registered participant receives an event medal. The event benefits Inland Empire veterans programs, and the organizers note that the money helps feed and house veterans most in need.

Planning your morning

Check-in starts at 6:30 AM, ahead of the 8:00 AM start, so give yourself time to park, pick up your bib and warm up. Norco sits roughly 45 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, so most people coming from the city should plan on a drive of an hour or more depending on traffic. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and dress for a cool early start that warms up quickly.

The registration page lists the $60.00 option as a donation, and the flyer points to TheRuckChallenge.com for online sign-up and a separate donation link. Confirm details with the organizers, and bring a ride plan, because parking near a small post can fill up.

If you are collecting things to do in Los Angeles and the surrounding region this month, a charity walk with a medal at the end is an easy yes. Browse more outdoor events or see what else is happening across Los Angeles.
