Out Of The Box LA

The Airliner

Bar · Los Angeles

2419 N Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90031

The Airliner is a neighborhood bar at 2419 North Broadway in Lincoln Heights, and the building has been pouring drinks for about a hundred years. Chef Vinh Nguyen and Gary Wang reopened the downstairs bar in 2023 as a pan-Asian spot with an Asian comfort food menu, natural wines and cocktails, keeping the 85-year-old walnut bar from the previous run.

The room that matters for show-goers is upstairs. Airliner Upstairs is a hifi sound room with Klipsch speakers running on McIntosh amplifiers, and the designers built it to feel like the inside of a wooden speaker box, with folded paper panels on the ceiling handling the echo. Local and international DJs play there, and the calendar mixes club nights with live acts. This is the bar that hosted Low End Theory, the weekly night that anchored the LA beat scene from 2006 to 2018, and Tyler, the Creator, Flying Lotus and Thundercat all played the room before they were famous.

The site lists seating capacity of 150 across indoor and outdoor areas, so shows here are close quarters. Hours run 5 PM to 11 PM Tuesday through Thursday and 5 PM to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The site does not publish parking or transit details; some event nights are 21+, and several listings are free, so read the listing for your date before you head out.
