Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center

The Fowler Events Center is the arena on California Baptist University's campus in Riverside, about an hour east of downtown LA on the 91. It opened in May 2017 as the CBU Events Center, and that's still the name you'll hear from most locals. In February 2023 the university renamed it for Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler after a major gift from the couple. The building covers 153,000 square feet and holds 5,050 seats, which puts it in the same size class as a big college gym rather than a pro arena.

From the outside it looks more like a Spanish mission than a sports hall: tan stucco, red tile and a tall tower over the front arch. The main entrance faces north onto Lancer Lane, next to the campus Recreation Center near the corner of Adams Street and Diana Avenue.

Most nights belong to the school. Lancer basketball plays its home games here, the university holds chapel here for thousands of students during the academic year, and commencement uses it too. Touring shows and outside events book it around that schedule, so the list below can go quiet for weeks during basketball season and then pick up again.

Getting here is simple. Leave the 91 at Adams Street, and the main campus entrance is at the first stop light. Parking on campus is free, which is rare for an arena anywhere in Southern California. The street address the university gives for the campus is 8432 Magnolia Ave, but your map app will do better aimed at Lancer Plaza on Diana Avenue.
