The Colony Theatre

The Colony Theatre is the Burbank home of The Colony Theatre Company, a non-profit that has been producing plays without a break since 1975. The company spent its first 25 years in a 99-seat room in Silver Lake. In 1996 the Burbank City Council handed it this building and paid to turn it into a performance space, and the company moved in during 2000. The building's formal name is Burbank Center Stage, which is why that phrase shows up on some listings and on the theatre's own footer.

You'll find it at 555 N Third St, on the corner of Third Street and Cypress Avenue, attached to the Burbank Town Center mall in downtown Burbank. The venue describes the room as stadium seating around a thrust stage, with a clear view from every seat, and the restaurants of downtown Burbank are a short walk out the door. The venue calls itself "freeway close", right off the I-5 at the Burbank Boulevard exit, so most people drive in.

Parking is the easy part. The theatre shares the mall's East Garage, and the venue says parking there is free. Enter from Third Street between Cypress and Magnolia, where the sign reads "East Garage, 501 N. 3rd Street", next to the Burlington store. You arrive on level 4, which is the one you want. Follow the overhead signs for the Colony Theatre to section 4e in the northeast corner of the garage, where the theatre entrance is.

The calendar is a mix. The company stages its own musicals and plays, and the room is also rented for ballet, chamber concerts, an open mic on select Tuesday nights, a play-reading series and the Troubies' annual holiday spoof. Prices are set by each event, so check the listing. Seats 101 to 106 and 301 to 306 are ADA accessible, and 103, 104, 105, 302, 303 and 304 are wheelchair seats.
