The Echo

Music venue · Echo Park

1822 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026

The Echo is a music club at 1822 W. Sunset Blvd in Echo Park, and it's half of a pair. Its sibling, the Echoplex, is a separate room with its own entrance, reached through the alley at 1154 Glendale Blvd. The two post their shows separately, so check which room your ticket names before you start walking. Showing up at the wrong door is the classic mistake here, and it's easy to avoid.

Both rooms have been running in Echo Park since 2001. The venue calls its booking adventurous, and the calendar puts touring bands right next to dance nights, so the DJ side of the schedule sits among live shows rather than off on its own. Read each listing for the night's format. The Echo also points to a free Monday night music residency that helped launch several bands.

A few rules apply at the door. Bags have to be smaller than 12 by 12 inches, and anything bigger gets turned away, so leave the backpack at home. Age limits are set per event and posted on the calendar. Some listings are 21+, so bring ID, and a show with no limit listed is all ages. If you bought through Ticketmaster, will call opens at door time, so don't count on collecting a ticket before then.

Parking is the hard part. There's street parking around the block and a paid lot on Lemoyne, but the venue itself suggests rideshare or public transit over driving. That goes double on a late night in Echo Park, when it pays to have your ride home planned before you head out.
