The Mayan sits at 1038 S Hill St in downtown LA, next door to The Belasco, and the front of the building is impossible to miss. A row of carved figures in feathered headdresses runs above the doors, under a wall of geometric stonework. It opened in 1927 as a theatre, and the venue still leans on that Mayan Revival look, from the high ceilings to the detail inside.

Now it's a nightclub. The current operators run it as a weekend club, open Friday and Saturday from 9:30 PM to 2 AM and closed the rest of the week. A main stage carries LED screens, concert-level sound and a full light rig, with raised VIP and bottle service sections around it for anyone booking a table. Promoters rent it for one-off nights, so the calendar swings a lot. A recent month had a reggaeton party, a hip-hop birthday show with a live set, a Halloween bash and a rave crew's takeover. Private events and film shoots fill some of the other nights.

Check the event page before you go, because door times move from night to night. Some open at 8, some at 9. The club's site doesn't post a standing age limit, bag rule or dress code, so read the ticket page for those as well. Tables are booked through the venue's own site.

The club sits on Hill between 10th and 11th, with a second venue right next door, so the sidewalk fills up on a busy Saturday. Sort out your ride home before 2 AM, because the whole club empties at closing.
