Que Sera
Long Beach, CA 90813
Que Sera has been a Long Beach institution on 7th Street since 1975, when founder Ellen Ward and her partners opened it as a bar made for lesbians and queer people, programming everything from gay plays to softball trips when other bars wouldn't. The Historical Society of Long Beach credits Ward with making it one of the city's essential safe spaces. After years of punk shows, drag and dive-bar regulars, it now runs under new ownership with an actual website, a booking form and a calendar.
The layout is two rooms: a front bar with booths and a pool table, and a back room with a stage and dance floor. Weeknights lean local bands, karaoke and themed parties; weekends bring club nights that run from reggaeton and perreo to house, so check what's booked before you come. Tickets are usually cheap, often at the door.
The site lists no capacity, dress code, parking or age policy of its own, though promoter listings for its weekend club nights typically read 21 and over, so bring ID. Street parking on 7th and the side streets is the only option, and most people arrive by rideshare or drive in from LA. Nights here lean to DJ sets and live bands, and the bar posts them on its own calendar.
