The Regent was built in 1914 and calls itself the last historic movie theater still standing on Main Street downtown. You'll find it at 448 S. Main St. It closed in 2000, was restored in 2012 and now runs as a live music room. Step inside and the old cinema shows through: a grand proscenium arch framing the stage, a gothic ceiling and a wrap-around mezzanine above a sloped floor. The mezzanine gives you a second place to watch from.

The venue books concerts, dance nights, film screenings and festivals. It doesn't publish a capacity or a seating layout, so open the ticket page for your show and see what it sells before you pick a spot to stand or sit. The room feels like a theater, not a warehouse.

Some of the best use of the night comes before the first act. Prufrock Pizzeria and The Love Song Bar are both on site, so you can eat and drink without heading back out to the street.

Door times change with each show, so open the ticket link for the exact hour. Plenty of shows are all ages, and others are 18 and over, with the limit shown in the title of the listing. Small handbags and totes are fine, but full-size backpacks aren't, and a bag check runs $7 if you show up with one.

Three paid surface lots sit across the street between 4th and 5th Streets. If you'd rather skip the car, the Pershing Square Metro stop is about three blocks away.
