What we don't collect
Out Of The Box LA has no user accounts, no logins, no forms, and no payments. We don't ask you to sign up, and we don't process any payment information. The site sells nothing.
What we collect through analytics
When you accept analytics, Google Analytics collects:
- Pages you view and how you navigate the site
- Approximate location (city/region level, derived from your IP address)
- Device and browser type
- Referrer (the site or search engine that sent you here)
- On-page interactions (clicks, scroll depth, and similar engagement signals)
Google Analytics acts as our data processor for this information. See Google's privacy information for how Google handles data it processes on our behalf.
We don't keep server access logs: our hosting (Amazon CloudFront and S3) isn't configured to retain them today. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
How analytics is used, and how long it's kept
Analytics data helps us understand which events and neighborhoods readers care about, so we can cover Los Angeles better. Google Analytics is currently configured to retain event-level data for 2 months, after which it is automatically deleted.
Analytics runs only after you accept it in the cookie banner or the footer's "Cookie settings" control. See our Cookie Policy for the exact list of cookies this sets.
Third parties you may interact with
Because we cover live events, many links on this site lead to third parties we don't control:
- Ticket sellers you may buy tickets from
- Venues hosting the events we cover
- Event organizers and promoters
- Our own social media profiles (Instagram, TikTok, X, and similar)
Each of those third parties has its own privacy policy, and it applies once you leave our site.
California privacy rights
If you're a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect and how it's used
- Delete personal information we've collected about you
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
- Non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights
We do not sell or share personal information as defined under California law. Google Analytics acts as our service provider, and we keep Google signals and ads personalization turned off. If that ever changes, this statement will change first.
To make a request, contact us using the email below. We'll respond as quickly as we can, and no later than the timeframes California law allows.
EU/UK visitor rights
If you're visiting from the EU or UK, you have the right to access, delete, or object to processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent at any time. The legal basis for our use of analytics is your consent, given through the cookie banner. Withdrawing it stops analytics immediately, as described in our Cookie Policy.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
